I
love storytelling. As a kid, some of my fondest memories are
my parents reading to me, reading comics (and later books) over
and over again, and watching movies. Growing up in a small town,
theatre was a special event; something to be experienced only
a few times a year. As a theatre artist, I am always happiest
when telling stories that I would like to see. As an actor and
director, I feel my job is to act as a conduit for the playwright
– to bring his or her story to life with honesty, clarity
and a sense of surprise and discovery. As a playwright, I try
to do the same, but with my own words. I’ve always felt
the best theatre is a communal experience, shared by audience
and performers. Sometimes it’s transformative. Sometimes
it’s just fun. But I do believe there is a reason we keep
entering the darkened space together.
